Nicosia, Cyprus, September 2024 – Cyprus Seeds, a leading force in supporting research teams to bring their innovations to the international market, is excited to announce the launch of its 4th Call for Applications. The Cyprus Seeds program was inspired by the MIT Deshpande Center for Technological Innovation, in the US. In its first three cycles, it has supported 19 academic teams from leading institutions in Cyprus, including the Cyprus Institute of Neurology and Genetics, University of Cyprus, Cyprus University of Technology, CYENS Center of Excellence, KIOS Research and Innovation Centre of Excellence, the Centre of Excellence for Climate and Atmosphere Research in the Eastern Mediterranean and Middle East region, The Cyprus Institute, and Frederick University.
In less than 6 years of operation, Cyprus Seeds has achieved remarkable outcomes, including:
- Six projects spun out from four different research organizations, and two more are expected before the end of 2025.
- The signing of two-option-to-licensing agreements with US pharmaceutical companies, by one of the projects in its first cycle.
- The filing of nine patents.
- Created and paid for the employment of 40 scientists.
Selected teams will benefit from:
- Financial Support: Grants of up to 30,000 per team.
- Mentorship: Guidance from international experts, mostly alumni of MIT, with hands-on experience in all stages of research commercialization.
- Hands-on Training: Workshops led by international trainers, on topics that are critical for commercialization research, including IP protection and pitching with impact.
- Networking Opportunities: Access to potential investors, industry partners, and accelerators, through Cyprus Seeds’ extensive network in the US, UK, Denmark, Israel, France, and Greece.
